Mining Division
Encouraged by the call for greater private sector participation in energy self-sufficiency,
SKI Construction Group, Inc. responded and ventured into coal mining through its
acquisition of a Coal Operating Contract (COC) with the Department of Energy (DOE)
and the creation of a wholly-owned subsidiary, SKI Energy Resources Inc. (SERI).
In May 2005, The Department of Energy (DOE) granted SKI Energy Resources Inc. (SERI)
COC No. 135 situated in Danao City comprised of six blocks of land with a total
area of 5,973 hectares. They also granted COC No. 136 situated in Alpako, Naga,
comprising of one block of land with a total area of 1,000 hectares.
In less than two years, SERI was able to move COC No. 135 from a phase of Exploration
to phase of Development and Production (D/P). All the required government compliance
certificates have been secured to include the Environmental Compliance Certificate
(ECC), and the National Commission of Indigenous People Clearance (NCIP).
It is anticipated that in 2009, consistent with the DOE-approved work program, SERI
will be a major player in the supply of local sub-bituminous coal. With its coal
registering into levels of more than 10,000 Btu, SERI intends to offer its products
to global players in the cement and power sector industries such as CEMEX, LA FARGE
and AES POWER.
